π§ βThe function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character β that is the goal of true education.β β Martin Luther King
Hey friends & nerds! π
Welcome to the Sunday Science Newsletter where we explore science, systems & tools that help us become smarter scientists.
π» Learn MATLAB in 30 Minutes!
No previous knowledge of Programming is required, just follow along with me and by the end of the video you will not only learn about the basics of MATLAB, vectors, matrices, indexing, the concept of m-file scripts, functions, but also conditional statements, how to debug code and how to create your first plots!
π§ Simple ML for Sheets
With Simple ML for Sheets, also referred to as Simple ML, everyone can use Machine Learning (ML) in Google Sheets without knowing ML, without coding, and without sharing data with third parties.
π How and Where to Learn Python - 5 Tips
Find a reason to learn Python: Having a clear motivation for learning Python can help you stay focused and engaged in the learning process. Pick a project that interest you and work on it every day. 30 Minutes for 30 Days!
Start with the basics: It's important to have a solid foundation in the basics of Python before moving on to more advanced topics. This will make it easier to understand and learn new concepts later on. Start with the documentation!
Practice, practice, practice: The best way to learn Python is to actively use it (see point 1!). Work on small projects, write code, and experiment with different features to get a feel for the language.
Don't be afraid to ask for help: If you get stuck while learning Python, don't be afraid to ask for help. There are many resources available, such as online forums and Stack Overflow, where you can get help from other Python users. Ahβ¦and ChatGPT of course! π
Stay up to date: Python is a rapidly-evolving language, and new features and libraries are being added all the time. To stay current and take advantage of the latest developments, make an effort to keep up with the latest Python news and updates.
Bonus: Pick a Python Course thatβs beginner-friendly. Youβre free to pick your own and do some research. Check out mine here if you like!
π¦ NASA - Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics Course
This series will help participants develop an understanding of computational fluid dynamics and provide an opportunity to practice numerical solution techniques as applied to the equations governing fluid mechanics and heat transfer.

Upcoming Events
Accelerating the Development of Plastic Fastening Components using Cloud-Native Simulation
SimScaleβs live webinar on January 17th with ITW, a global design & engineering firm, will showcase how ITW uses the cloud-native SimScale engineering simulation platform for non-linear static analysis and how they have embedded simulation in their early-stage design process. A live case study of pipe and anchor clips, and how they account for non-linear materials, contacts, and effects to predict large deformations and optimise the clip design to reduce the risk of part failure will also be showcased.
π» Engineering Tool of the Week β OOFEM
OOFEM is free finite element code with object oriented architecture for solving mechanical, transport and fluid mechanics problems that operates on various platforms.
