📚 “The whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows” – Sydney J. Harris
Hey friends & nerds! 👋
Welcome to the Sunday Science Newsletter where we explore science, systems & tools that help us become smarter people.
💻 MATLAB, Python & Coding for Engineers
🧠 Visual explanations of core machine learning concepts
Machine Learning University (MLU) is an education initiative from Amazon designed to teach machine learning theory and practical application.
As part of that goal, MLU-Explain exists to teach important machine learning concepts through visual essays in a fun, informative, and accessible manner.
💻 Machine Learning with ChatGPT: Image Classification Model
I partnered with Coursera to teach you in a 1-hour project how to build a machine learning model using ChatGPT. We will use the MNIST database which is a large database of handwritten digits that is commonly used for training various image processing systems.
You will be introduced to the process of fine-tuning, which involves adjusting the model's parameters to learn task-specific relationships between input and output. You will import the necessary libraries and load the data, and then split the data into training and testing sets. You will then define the model architecture, compile the model, and train it on the training data. After training, you will evaluate the model's performance on the testing data and make any necessary adjustments.
✍️ My Favourite Productivity & Note Taking Tool – Notion AI
Notion is a collaboration platform with modified Markdown support that integrates kanban boards, tasks, wikis and databases. It is an all-in-one workspace for notetaking, knowledge and data management, and project and task management.
Keeps me sane and organised in my 60+ hour weeks 🤓
🚀 Engineering Tool of the Week – COOLFluiD
The object-oriented HPC platform for CFD, plasma and multi-physics simulations whose development started in 2002 at the Von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics (www.vki.ac.be) in collaboration with the KU Leuven Center for mathematical Plasma Astrophysics (CmPA) dept. (https://wis.kuleuven.be/CmPA) is open.

🎬 Video - Introduction to the Human Brain. Prof. Kanwisher tells a true story to introduce the course, then covers the why, how, and what of studying the human brain and gives a course overview.
🛠️ Tool - Chat GPT-4. Chat GPT-4 is a highly advanced chatbot created by OpenAI that has proven extremely helpful in generating LinkedIn posts, video concepts, aiding in research, and streamlining my overall workflow in my agency and full-time job. I strongly advise everyone to give it a try!
📚 Book of the Week
The Road to Reality: A Complete Guide to the Laws of the Universe
Curious for the laws of the universe and the mathematics to model it?
Here, Penrose examines the mathematical foundations of the physical universe, exposing the underlying beauty of physics and giving us one the most important works in modern science writing.
The second, improved, version of the translated book by Nobel-prize winner Sir Roger Penrose can be ordered now via your bookshop and Meromorf Press in Dutch or English. See also the video recordings of the "Road to Reality" Symposium at the Institute for Advanced Study (University of Amsterdam, 2019; English spoken, Dutch subtitles).
